Thursday, April 23rd Updates

Distance Learning - Governor Walz held a press conference today and issued orders for schools to continue Distance Learning through the end of the school year. Our last day of instruction will be on Friday, May 22.

May 1st and May 4th - are set as Staff Development days by the Commissioner of Education- Distance Learning for those two days will not take place! School aged child care and food service will take place for those two days!

Events - we are waiting on further instruction from the Governor to plan for end of year events and will update information to you as soon as it becomes available.

Student work - continue to support your student and reach out to staff if there’s additional communication, homework assistance, etc., that can be done. We were all hoping to have students back in the building...so no doubt disappointment might set in. We need to make the best of things and help everyone to be successful. Again- please reach out if we need additional supports for your student, we are here for you.

Staff updates - Mrs. Kronschnabel will retire at the end of the year. Emily Sunram and Kinlee Burke have been hired to fill elementary teaching spots. Welcome Emily and Kinlee! Jenna Hutchins will be moving to Special Education to fill Beau Svobodny’s position.

Monday, April 20th Updates

Parents - Parent Teacher conferences will be April 21st and April 23rd from 4-8 pm. Just like many other things this spring, PTC are going to be different. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Walz issued the stay at home order, this means that the school building is closed to the public and we cannot have face to face parent teacher conferences. Fertile-Beltrami will be doing virtual conferences via phone/video.

Elementary parents - classroom teachers will be contacting you to schedule a time to meet.

High School parents - 6th period teachers will be contacting you to schedule a time to meet. If you have other teachers you want to speak with at conference time, please contact them to set up a time.

Thursday, April 16th Updates

How long will Distance Learning take place?
Our current status is to continue with Distance Learning under the Governor’s orders until April 30th. Teaching staff are to report to school Friday, May 1 and prepare for student’s return to school buildings upon the end of the Distance Learning period. Districts and schools may count May 1, 2020 and May 4, 2020 as instructional days, and enrolled students can be reported in attendance and membership.

In other words- we have a plan in place to continue Distance Learning through April 30th, May 1 and 4th are to be used by staff to plan/prepare for the next steps which might be a continuation of distance learning or return of students back to school on May 5th. Many unknowns! We will continue to follow the Governor’s orders.

What about scholarship awards, trips, Prom, Graduation?
Everyone is curious to know what lies ahead for some major events we have scheduled in May such as Prom and Graduation. At this time we are following the Governor's orders which are to continue Distance Learning and maintain a closed school site. We will need an update from the Governor’s office to determine our next steps for how large gatherings can take place. I know it’s frustrating, but we can’t make decisions until we have direction from the State of MN. I promise to update you with the details as soon as they become available!

Parent Teacher Conferences: teachers will host “virtual” parent teacher conferences Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23. The office will send out communication to parents by noon Thursday April 16th through Synergy informing parents of the format for PTC.

Monday, April 6th Updates

School Calendar: Just a reminder - this is a short instruction week. No school or activities on Thursday, Friday, and Monday (Apr 9-13).

Distance Learning Communications: Parents/students please be sure to communicate questions/concerns, etc… to your son or daughter’s teachers. Even though we are in an “off site” learning time, don’t hesitate to ask questions! You can even connect for a face to face “virtual” visit for questions too!

Cyber Security: With so many people turning to online communications, we are seeing a rise in phishing emails/attachments and requests for personal information. Don’t open attachments or answer emails from people you don’t know. Make sure to protect your identity and personal information!

Stay Healthy: Remember the recommendations and guidelines that have been put in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Practice social distancing/avoid close contact with others, wash your hands often and cover your cough. Clean/disinfect frequently touched objects in your home. If you are ill, stay home except to seek medical care.

Friday, March 20th updates

Parents/Students- our mission during this 8 day closure (3-18-2020 thru 3-27-2020) has been to create a plan and process to deliver education in a distance learning model.

The Governor’s Office and MN Dept of Education will make the call whether school will resume on 3-30-20, either on-site or using a distance learning model. I do not have guidance yet- when they will make that call.

Things our staff have been working on to develop the distance learning plan to date include a technology component using internet connectivity (ipads or laptops for students). Other elements might include packet materials and a plan for distributing work from home to school (we’ll review CDC guidelines before implementing).

We will put in place a schedule to assign ipads to elementary students early next week. 7-12 students without laptops- will have a schedule too! Look for information regarding time/date/location next week.

Garden Valley Technologies has graciously provided a base internet package to students. Please contact GV for information, 800-448-8260.

Parent teacher conferences next week are postponed as we are using this school closure time to ramp up our distance learning process.

Be assured I will communicate information as soon as it becomes available! I feel very confident we will find a way or make a way--Fertile-Beltrami community and school always step up to a challenge! --Mr. Clarke

Thursday, March 19th updates

Governor Walz has directed the Commissioner of Education to close all Minnesota school districts and charter schools to students from Wednesday, March 18, until Friday, March 27, to allow educators and staff time to prepare for distance learning and continuity of essential services.

All Fertile-Beltrami School events and activities from Wednesday March 18 thru Friday, March 27, 2020 have been postponed. We might have to cancel or postpone additional activities (relying on CDC guidelines) but if there’s a way to delay or push things to a later time and still have them- that is goal number 1! So keep hope!

All Fertile-Beltrami Staff will report to work as usual to prepare distance learning services for students. It’s all hands on deck to prepare and plan!

During this time both food service for students and daycare for school aged students of Emergency workers is available. Contact Jen/Alley at school for additional information.

Information changes quickly- we will provide updates through the School District Website and Synergy.

Our mission and goal for our students- deliver education services to keep everyone on track for grade level completion and graduation!
